I am in love with this pairing – an oversized blazer with classic jeans and heels! I like the juxtaposition of a somewhat formal and tailored checked blazer with the ripped vintage looking jeans. Feminine and masculine, formal and casual, yin and yang …
If you’ve been with me for a while you know I have a soft spot for retro looks. The checked blazer from the 80’s and 90’s has come back with a vengeance. Think of wide shoulders and loose fit – Melanie Griffith in “Working Girl.”
The look in its current iteration is updated with ripped jeans and satin camisole underneath.
The cami is an interpretation of the daytime pajama trend which is so popular lately. My pajama top I styled recently is also a favorite look of mine. Wearing a lightweight top under a long sleeve layer is perfect in early fall when there are a couple of hours in the day when it feels like summer and you can shed that blazer or jacket. But you do need the top layer when the temperatures drop in the morning and evening.
I love the retro look of my 501 Levi’s. They are a thick denim material (really old school) and not appropriate for summer. I’m excited to get back to wearing them this fall and winter.
My new favorite pair of heels complete the outfit. They are inspired by the iconic Chanel two tone slingback pumps. These slingbacks are a fraction of the designer price but achieve the same effect with a black toe cap and nude leather. I happen to like these even more because of the pointy toe and thin heel. They look more sharp than the Chanel block heel and rounded toe which can come across a little granny style. (Yikes, I hope I didn’t offend anyone!)
The Chanel ones retail for around $800 but I have linked a number of very similar and way more affordable versions below.
