Sometimes people tell me, “You must have a huge closet!” The perception is that if I am showing different outfits almost every day, I must have a closet bursting at the seam. This is not really the case with me. I am a minimalist at heart. I don’t like to keep items around that I don’t use. Also I don’t like to buy indiscriminately and then end up returning those purchases.
I wear my clothes a lot and you will see me repeating my favorite pieces all the time. I like to mix and match separates, or wear with different shoes and accessories. Like this off the shoulder sweater I got last year. I actually didn’t spend a lot of money on it and didn’t expect it to last beyond one season. But to my delight, I saw very similar sweaters pop up again this year. So I wore it again. I paired it with black pants and leopard pumps. Only after I took these pictures, did I remember that I wore the sweater last year with my pleated leather skirt and over the knee boots. Funny, that I was drawn to wear black with it each time!
My black dress pants from the LOFT are a neutral base for just about any top I want to highlight and I wear them over and over again.
This makes the case for not being too afraid to try a trend. Some trends come and go fast and it seems like a waste to spend any money on them. But others might stick around for a few years before those items start looking outdated. It seems like this off the shoulder sweater was a great buy (inexpensive one too!) and I am going to continue to enjoy it.
