I’m well aware that Paperbag Pants will not be everyone’s cup of tea. They are another nod to the 80’s era: a high waist and extra fabric around the midsection cinched with a tie. But you know me, I’m not afraid to experiment and I’m especially drawn to retro styles.
I played around with the Paperbag Pants style and came up with a few tips on how to pull it off:
1. Go for a soft fabric that will drape and hug your body instead of parachute out in an unflattering way.
2. Pair the pants with a form fitting top. If the bottom part of the outfit is full, you want to minimize the top in order to create balance. Ideally, I would pair the Paperbag Pants with a crop top. (Not sure I can pull off a crop top with my mom bod.)
3. Wear high heels. This style creates a visually longer torso which can make the legs appear short. The high heels help to bring the proportions back to normal.
4. Pick a solid color or fine stripes. Adding bold prints to this already busy style will be too much.
Paperbag Pants are easy to find and come in many colors and fabrics – there are even paperbag skirts! This style is both chic and comfortable. Guess what I did when I got home after wearing this outfit – I kicked off my heels and lounged around the house in this outfit.
