I picked up the pink plaid off the shoulder top from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It checked three important boxes for me – plaid (perennial fall staple), pink (I’m a sucker for blush pink) and off the shoulder (a strong trend currently).
The top also comes in blue and gray and is still available as part of the Nordstrom Sale. Some sizes tend to sell out but I believe they get restocked. Keep checking!
The soft summery color of the pink plaid off the shoulder top allowed me to experiment with putting together a new (for me) look. I see bloggers wear shorts with jackets and booties all the time but it’s not something I’ve ever done in real life. Here’s the reason – I live in Maryland and if it is warm enough here to wear shorts, it’s too hot for booties and a jacket. And if it’s cold enough to wear booties and a jacket, it’s too freezing (and inappropriate) to wear shorts. Am I right?
But I decided to put this look together with my new Vince Camuto booties (also from the Nordstrom Sale) purely for scientific purposes. And true, the cuteness factor is there, but oh was I sweating my behind off! So the verdict is, I just can’t do this living in this climate. I don’t know where you have to live to pull this off – California, maybe? I can maybe see this happening toward the end of the summer – when the days are still hot but in the evenings you might want to throw on a light layer. But a suede jacket? I don’t know. Besides, as soon as September comes and pumpkin-spice-everything hits the universe, we all put away the summer shorts and dig out our jeans and plaid scarves.
What do you think? Is this a look you see yourself wearing?
I still think this pink plaid off the shoulder top is cute and functional though (maybe leave the suede jacket home!) The flannel is very thin and totally wearable on a cooler summer day and through fall.
