Believe it or not, I’m a hat person. I wish I lived in an era when hats would be appropriate all day every day. I admit that I don’t wear hats as often as I wish I did. There are two reasons:
1. Lack of confidence to pull one off in a casual setting
2. Dreaded hat hair.
The only way you will see my by the pool or at the beach in the summer is with a hat. Mostly because I can’t stand the sun (it hurts!) and I want to protect my skin. But I also love that wearing a hat at the beach is completely normal. But just picture me going to Target with a big straw floppy hat!
Winter is another time when it’s socially acceptable to wear a hat. It protects from the cold. But it also allows us to be a little more fashionable and creative. This season in particular, hats of all shapes and styles have become extremely popular. So we can all move a little further than the utilitarian purpose of the hat and have some fun. My inspiration for the red beret came from two of my favorite bloggers – Jean from Elegan Edge (she’s always sporting different styles hats) and Crystal from Obsessions Now (she’s the queen of the berets).
There is something so classic and polished about a beret. It’s chic and feminine. And French. I am also trying to will the universe into turning a Paris trip dream into reality. So I went all French with this outfit. Hopefully not too cartoonish like a street mime. Anyone else got this association?
Now that I put that image in front of you, I have to convince you that a red beret looks stylish and cool. It does to me. It’s a classic. I also got it in cream and gray but there’s something about the red that makes it so much more chic than any other color.
This particular one is from Anthropologie and it has a soft slouchy style. I tried on berets that were smaller and more stiff but didn’t like the way they (didn’t) fit my head. This Anthropologie beret is all wool and if worn this way, it will cover both ears and keep them warm.
