This particular outfit represents the stars and stripes only in their inverse colors. The stripes are white and blue and the figurative stars of this outfit are the red gingham sandals. The gingham print has taken over summer and I love seeing it in colors other than black or blue. I most recently wore this gingham dress and I’m still obsessed with it even though it’s in the bit overdone blue gingham.
The red gingham sandals are just darling with their cute bows. I just realized that the combination of the sandals with my new rattan bag conjured an association of a picnic basket with its red gingham lining. So I had to find the image I have in my head and put them here for you to see for yourself.
I believe that these associations happen in my mind as I think about how to pair items for my outfit. I am not always aware of them and in the case of these red gingham sandals and basket bag, the association was subconscious. Only realized it as I was looking at the pictures now.
Let’s turn our attention for a bit to the latest addition to my bag collection. This little beauty is a summer staple and has quickly become a fashion blogger favorite. I was smitten by its round shape and compact size. I purchased mine through Etsy and the bags by that seller are made in and shipped from Bali. It took only a few days for the bag to arrive in the US. This rattan bag is like the little cousin of the straw tote – also a must have summer and beach accessory.
I have recently discovered a love for small size cross body bags. I normally run out of the house with just the essentials and rarely reach for my larger totes. A small cross body is lightweight and hands free – great news for my shoulders!
