I am going to attend New York Fashion Week (NYFW) for the first time next week. I booked a hotel room and bought bus tickets so it’s definitely happening!
I have no idea what to expect. I’ve read a little bit about what it’s going to be like and have talked briefly online with people who have been there before but not enough to paint a full picture.

I am excited about this adventure but also a little nervous. I am going alone even though I will be meeting up with a group of women I know from an online blogger group. I am trying not to be nervous about the fact that I’m facing this new experience alone. (I am definitely nervous about the weather – it’s going to be so cold in NYC in February!)
I have learned not to deny myself an opportunity because it is new, unfamiliar, and therefore scary. After all, New York City is a place I lived in and explored largely on my own. Do I wish I was going with a friend – absolutely! There’s an undeniable level of confidence and strength that comes from the support of a buddy. But when one isn’t around, I still power through.
I have my insecurities – am I hip and cool enough, how am I going to fit in with the other bloggers, am I too mom-like, am I going to be the oldest one … But I push my fears and doubts aside and tell myself that it will be a positive and fun experience.
Good things don’t happen to those who sit around at home in a safe and familiar environment. I know I have to walk out into the world, put myself out there in order to grow and develop. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? I could say to myself, oh I’m so new at this, I just started my blog, I’m not ready, maybe I should wait till the Fashion Week in the fall, etc.
“If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives.” ― Lemony Snicket,
I plan to wear this dress to one of the evening events I’m attending at NYFW. You may remember it from my party dress picks in this post. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and fit of this very affordable dress – only $26!! (See a special promotion below.) And you don’t have to live in NYC to know that it’s a place for over the top, in your face style, especially during Fashion Week. I’m bringing my A game with a mix of textures – velvet, faux fur, and suede, and keeping the colors dark – right up my alley!
