As someone who loves creating beautiful and comfortable spaces, I’m always on the lookout for the best materials for my home. After using cotton and linen for years, I’ve switched over to bamboo sheets and bedding and it’s my new favorite! I’m excited to share what I’ve learned and hope this post will tell you everything you need to know before making the switch.

Pros and Cons of Bamboo Sheets and Bedding
Like any material, bamboo has its advantages and disadvantages. Let’s start with a few of the main points to consider before you buy:
PROS
- Extremely soft and comfortable.
- Antimicrobial and hypoallergenic.
- Moisture-wicking and breathable.
- Sustainable and eco-friendly when manufactured responsibly.
CONS
- It is pricey compared to other options.
- It is wrinkle-prone and may require special care.
- Environmental impact if chemicals are not handled properly.

How Are Bamboo Sheets Made?
You’ve probably heard of bamboo flooring and other home decor, but how does a plant turn into something so soft you can sleep on it? Bamboo bedding – including sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases – is made from the fibers of the bamboo plant. Here’s a simplified look at the process of how it’s made:
- Bamboo is harvested.
- Then it is broken down into a pulp.
- The fibers are extracted by one of these methods:
- Mechanical: This method crushes the bamboo and uses natural enzymes to break it down. This process is more environmentally friendly but less common due to its intensity and cost.
- Chemical (Viscose/Rayon): The pulp is treated with chemicals to extract cellulose, which is then spun into fibers. Most bamboo bedding is made using this method. Look for OEKO-TEX certifications to ensure responsible production.
- The fibers are spun into yarn and then woven into fabric.

Bamboo linen is produced using a mechanical process and bamboo viscose/rayon is produced using a chemical process.
Bamboo vs. Other Materials
Bedding made from bamboo feels softer and more luxurious than cotton, linen, microfiber, and sateen sheets. Linen and cotton are breathable, but bamboo has a moisture-wicking quality, making it a great choice for hot sleepers.

Linen starts stiff and a little scratchy but softens over time. When you first get a set of bamboo sheets, they have a bit of a silky feel but that diminishes after washing. You’ll be left with that luxurious softness they are known for.
My Personal Experience
I made the switch to bamboo bedding about a year ago and I am obsessed. I’ve had both crisp cotton sheets and linen sheets and nothing compares to the feeling of bamboo – both in the winter and summer months.

My current setup includes bamboo sheets and a duvet cover. To mix up the texture I layered the bed with a velvet or linen quilt set and knit throw blanket.

I have bamboo bedding from Amazon (Pure Bambo brand) and Quince. Both brands offer comparable quality and softness, but Quice is a little more expensive.

The only reason I prefer the Amazon duvet cover is the sizing. The Quince duvet fits both a king and California king comforter so I end up with a little gap on each side. The Amazon duvet is a standard king-size and fits my comforter like a glove as you can see in the images below. I also really like the envelope-style pillowcases.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bamboo Bedding
Always follow care instructions that come with your bedding but in general:
Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle.
Use a mild detergent.
Avoid bleach or fabric softeners, as they can damage the fibers.
Tumble dry on low heat setting.
Iron on low if needed (I don’t iron my sheets)
I have bamboo bedding from Amazon and Quince. Both are high-quality, have the same luxurious feel, and come in multiple colors. Plenty of retailers sell them, but these are some of the best quality for the price.
In my opinion, they are worth every penny! There are few things more important than a good night’s sleep. They feel so soft and make temperature fluctuations tolerable.

Final Thoughts
Bamboo sheets and bedding offer a unique blend of comfort, sustainability, and breathability. While it’s essential to choose reputable brands, the luxurious feel of bamboo sheets makes them a worthy consideration for creating a dreamy space and I highly recommend them!
