What is the Restoration Hardware Furniture style?
It’s difficult to describe Restoration Hardware furniture style with one word. A unique blend of bold and refined elements, each piece is sculptural as well as functional. The combination of modern, rustic, masculine, and industrial features creates that distinct upscale RH style.
Rug | Sconces | Side table | Sofa (custom from Casco Bay Furniture)
Your existing decor doesn’t necessarily have to fit the Restoration Hardware mold because there are plenty of pieces you can easily integrate into any interior design style.
Why is RH furniture so popular?
Step into any RH gallery and you’ll quickly see what the hype is about – one aspirational design after the other where you imagine yourself living. The Restoration Hardware label comes with a presumption of high-quality materials and superior construction making it a desirable choice.
Table | Chairs | Mirror | Chandelier | Sconce | Large vase | Small vase
There are many classic styles and designs associated with this brand which makes the price tag worth the investment. Anything you find will likely be a part of your interior design for years to come.
What are the most famous Restoration Hardware pieces?
These are pieces that have endured the test of time and have solidified themselves as classics. You’ll find them in the RH catalog of products year after year. They are also the most copied styles which means you can find the same beloved RH-inspired looks at other retailers.
Cloud Collection
The Restoration Hardware Cloud sofa and sectional have been dubbed the most comfortable in the world. While I don’t know if that’s true, plenty of people are willing to make this claim. The signature pillows draped over the arms give it that dreamy cloud-like look. One thing not comforting about this collection is the price tag. It is customizable, but the starting cost is around $5000.
Maxwell Leather Sofa
Clean lines and the low profile of the Maxwell sofa make it an easygoing classic in the RH lineup. Ultra-deep leather seats create an inviting space to curl up and watch a good movie. I have similar sofas and ended up moving them to the basement. The deep seating was awkward for guests – do they perch on the edge or sit back and let their legs stick out? Just something to think about if you want this beauty that starts at $6795.
Salvaged Wood Round Trestle Dining Table
Each table is made from 100-year-old solid pine timber that is hand selected and planed to rugged perfection. Due to authentic characteristics and detailed construction, this versatile round dining table comes with a unique price tag as well – $4995 for the 72′ option.
French Casement Cabinet
Inspired by French architecture, crown molding and cast-iron cremone hardware gives this display cabinet an elegant look. It has solid wood construction and vintage details that accentuate your decor. Available with solid or glass doors and different sizes, this cabinet as shown is listed at $3410.
Thaddeus Marble Coffee Table
What is more beautiful than hand-forged brass and Carrara marble? The hammered finish of the legs is the perfect complement to the smooth honed marble surface. The smallest rectangular version comes in at $4767.
Filament Lighting Collection
This style of lighting has a simple style and rustic charm. The filament bulbs give it the classic industrial look we’ve come to expect from Restoration Hardware. It’s a little bulky for my taste, but it has quite the following and there are less expensive options galore. The smallest one is 26″ in diameter and starts at $2200.
Belgian Linen Drapery
Not a piece of furniture, but the soft rich texture of the popular Belgian linen drapery collections is certainly something to be admired. The subtle variations in the fabric give it a luxurious look and feel. While I love the high-quality details of the French pleats, I don’t feel the need to spend $694 per panel.
Slipcovered Dining Armchair
Another elegant piece from RH, this low-profile dining armchair comes with tailored slipcovers made with fine Belgian linen. It is available in several fabrics and has the option for casters. There isn’t anything negative to say about this chair except the cost. A single chair will start at $1220.
Where can I find RH furniture for less?
If the Restoration Hardware coffee table you’ve had your eye on is out of your budget, there are still opportunities to get your hands on it. Check these places frequently and you’ll likely end up with exactly what you’re looking for:
- Facebook Marketplace – Customize your search radius and turn on notifications for your desired piece. Use several different phrases because the more you click on something the more Facebook will serve up similar items, increasing your chances. It may add travel time but it helps to search closer to RH gallery locations.
- Chairish – Touted as the decor lovers’ curated marketplace, this online consignment shop is the home of high-end furniture and decor. You’ll have little trouble finding RH and other upscale brands as well as vintage pieces.
- Restoration Hardware Outlets – There are more than 30 outlet locations throughout the US and Canada. This is where you’ll find furniture and decor that has been returned, has slight damage but is still functional, and pieces that were over-produced.
- Habitat for Humanity ReStores – I’m not certain about other states, but there are several here in Maryland that sells RH furniture. A nearby RH warehouse donates excess and slightly damaged pieces that are sold at a deeply discounted price.
Get Restoration Hardware style on a budget
As I mentioned above, these popular RH pieces have inspired looks you now see at other retailers. They may not have the same exact details and dimensions, but they are constructed with the RH label in mind.
My dining table (pictured below) is the perfect alternative to the RH version. It has the same wood tone and rustic details I was looking for but at a reasonable price point.
I loved the look of the RH Maxwell leather sofa, but since I needed two it would’ve been way over budget. Instead of searching for a similar look, I found Casco Bay Furniture, a custom manufacturer in North Carolina, that designed sofas that emulate the RH look at a fraction of the cost.
In the first image above, you can see the deep leather sofa in my living room. It looked nice but was awkward for casual conversation. The next photo shows both leather sofas in my basement media room where they are better suited for lounging.
Looking for RH-inspired styles that are not quite in your budget? No problem! I’ve put together several of my favorites that I think are really good takes on the real thing.

Mine are from World Market and don’t have slipcovers, but they do have the same low profile and casters. We’ve had ours for a few years and they have held up great!
Is the Restoration Hardware membership worth it?
The members program offers a few perks for those that join. You’ll get 25% off regularly priced items and 20% off sale items. Discounts apply at Restoration Hardware Outlet locations as well.
Another benefit is early access to clearance events and complimentary design help from someone familiar with everything RH has to offer.
The annual fee is $175 so if you plan to make several purchases within a year’s time, joining is a good idea. Be sure to do the math if you are only making small purchases. If the discount isn’t greater than the membership fee, it’s not worth it.
